Allen Carley

Friends and family were shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Allen Ladd Carley.His tenacious will to live, along with an uncanny ability to cheat death, had local bookies giving him odds of 320 to 1 to living until age 150. As the beloved son of the late Allen H. Carley and Bettie Jane Kraft, Mr. Carley started risking life and limb at a very young age. First, as the partner in crime and perpetual scapegoat of his most beloved and colorful older brother, the late King Carley. Then, as the young man about town, making himself known to the soda girls at the local drug store. He especially risked the wrath of the late Laura Kass as he squired her oldest daughter Lorraine to the local pizza place with dreams of worldly travel and Canfield�s soda. Armed only with her intelligence and an emergency dime, Lorraine fell hard for the dashing Mr. Carley. After a stint in the Army, Allen and Lorraine settled down into the blissful humdrum of married life, where two loud and obnoxious children sometimes made them wish for heavenly salvation, the far-away idea that eventually they would find their own paths gave the two parents reason for hope. Bored with the never-ending monotony of good health, it was around this time that Mr. Carley and Death decided to play tag. Heart problems, surgeries and an unforgiving opponent caused Mr. Carley to weaken but to never say Uncle. Base was always right around the corner with a legion of doctors always Red Rovering him back home. In between these games of round robin, Mr. Carley was able to squeeze in a 35 year career at ABC Rail and celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary. But on Sept 15th, 2016, Death finally won the round. And while contented to stand together as friends, Death continued to needle Mr. Carley for outwitting him all these years. Allen Carley is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine. Two always in awe - in-laws, Tim Abshire and Jenn Willson. Worshipped grandfather of Grace Lorraine Abshire and Allen Xavier Carley. And his children Laura Carley and Allen Carley, who will continue to squabble for his affection, knowing full well they never had to in the first place. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 4 until 8 pm. at Hack Funeral Home 753 Hodges St. Beecher, Illinois and funeral services will be on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 11:00 am also at Hack Funeral Home with the Rev.
