In Loving Memory of Zachary “Zak” Kowalski February 23, 1991 – June 19, 2026 With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Zachary “Zak” Kowalski, who was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on June 19, 2026, at the age of 35. Born in Kankakee, Illinois, Zak lived life on his own terms—with an adventurous spirit, a kind heart, and a smile that could instantly brighten someone’s day. Zak was preceded in death by his father, Richard Allen Kowalski, and his beloved grandmother, Bonnie, whose love and guidance remained with him throughout his life. To know Zak was to know someone who loved fiercely and lived authentically. Family meant everything to him. He is survived by his loving sisters, Kelly Kowalski, Nicole Wright, and Casey Wright, who loved their big brother beyond words. He was the proud and fun-loving uncle to Gianna, Jace, Jameson, Evelyn, Emory, and Ayla. Whether he was making them laugh, teasing them, or simply spending time together, those moments brought him genuine happiness. They will forever remember their Uncle Zak’s big heart, goofy sense of humor, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. His four beloved companions—Taz, Luna, Patty, and Belle—weren’t just pets; they were family. Every one of them was a rescue, something Zak was incredibly proud of. He had a heart for animals, especially those that had been forgotten or needed a second chance. If a stray crossed his path, it almost always found food, love, and a safe place because that’s just who Zak was. His compassion knew no limits, and he believed every life deserved kindness. A 2009 graduate of Crete-Monee High School, Zak later earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology from Texas State Technical College in 2023. Earning that degree was no small accomplishment. After surviving two traumatic brain injuries, many would have doubted what was possible, but not Zak. Through determination, perseverance, and countless challenges, he refused to give up. He was incredibly intelligent, resilient, and a true fighter, proving that strength isn’t measured by the obstacles we face, but by the courage to keep moving forward. Yet those who knew Zak best knew he was never defined by a diploma or a career. He found joy in the simple things that made life feel alive. He loved the thrill of fast cars, the freedom of the open road, and working with his hands. He could often be found tending to his plants and garden, always finding satisfaction in helping things grow. He believed in standing up for what mattered to him, staying true to his values, and living life unapologetically. Above all, Zak embraced life with a free spirit, an open heart, and a deep appreciation for the people, animals, and moments that made life beautiful. His faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation beneath it all. As a devoted member of Life Gate Church in Burleson, Texas, Zak didn’t just believe—he lived his faith. He openly shared the hope he found in Christ and wanted everyone he loved to know Jesus, believing with all his heart that one day they would be together again in the Kingdom of Heaven. Zak had a way of making people feel comfortable just by being himself. His grin was contagious, his honesty was refreshing, and his laughter was unforgettable. He reminded us that life isn’t measured by what we own or accomplish, but by the love we give, the memories we create, and the lives we touch along the way. Zak’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Faith Church, 100 E. 81st Ave, Dyer, IN 46311. Doors will open at 9:00 a.m., and the service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to join us as we celebrate Zak’s life, share memories, and honor the love, faith, and joy he brought to so many. The Kowalski family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hack-Jensen Funeral Home in Beecher, Illinois, for their compassion, kindness, and respect in honoring Zak and the family’s wishes. They also wish to thank the many friends, neighbors, and loved ones whose prayers, support, and acts of kindness have carried them through this incredibly difficult time As we remember Zak, let us honor his legacy by living with the same joy, authenticity, compassion, and unwavering faith that he so freely shared with others. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing he is home with his Savior. His free spirit, generous heart, infectious smile, and unconditional love will continue to live on in every story told, every laugh shared, and every life he touched
