Gail Kathryn Roemke, age 103, was received into the arms of her loving Lord and Savior, on December 16, 2017, at Beecher Manor .
Gail was born to Louis and Wilhemina Weber on September 9, 1914, in Strasburg, Illinois. After her completion of grade school and high school in Stewardson, Illinois, Gail continued her education at Eastern Illinois State Teachers College and completed two years of elementary teacher training in 1934. After graduation, she began teaching in the public school in Stewardson.
On June 2, 1937; Gail married the love of her life, Ernst Roemke at Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewardson, Illinois. Ernst was a Lutheran school teacher/principal; so Gail joined Ernie in this ministry, serving Lutheran churches and schools in Dale and Shawano, Wisconsin; Big Rapids and Detroit, Michigan and finally at Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, Illinois (now Concordia University-Chicago).
In addition to being a faithful helpmate to her husband and a nurturing mother, Gail was actively involved in the life of the churches and schools where they were called. She was also employed as a secretary at Ferris State College in Big Rapids Michigan and at Concordia College, River Forest Illinois. Ernst and Gail retired to Fort Wayne, Indiana to be closer to the Roemke relatives. In 1977, they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary
Ernst died in 1979, and after living in Fort Wayne for another 17 years, Gail moved to Beecher, Illinois to be closer to her daughters. Gail loved her family and her church, Zion Lutheran Church in Beecher. But above everything else, Gail loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with a deep and abiding love. She has left that legacy of love and faithfulness to her family and friends.
Gail was the mother of the late Kathryn Teske and sister of the late Vera Streng and Kenneth Weber.
She is survived by her son Thomas Roemke (Carol) and daughter Mary Beth Hollander (Eric), six grandchildren: Matthew Teske (Amy), Sarah Krums (Eric), Mark Roemke (Caryl), Krista Gyczen (Chet), Timothy Hollander and Christopher Hollander. Gail also passes on her faith legacy to 9 great grand children: Christopher and Anna Teske, Austin Roemke, Kristyn Tone, Grant, Scott and Kyla Gryczan, Anika and Alex Krums. Gail is also survived by her beloved niece Rosalie Streng
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Zion Lutheran Church, Beecher, Illinois, from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27th. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. at Zion. Committal will be at Concordia Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana on December 29th.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gail’s name to Zion Lutheran Church, Beecher.
