Linda Kay Martens

August 15, 1955 ~ July 2, 2019 (age 63)

Linda Kay Martens, age 63, of Grant Park, passed suddenly on the morning of July 2nd, 2019 at her home in Grant Park.

Linda was born in August of 1955 in Hazelcrest, IL to Harold and Leona Martens of Grant Park.  She spent her early years in Grant Park on her parent’s farm with older sisters Carol and Gloria.  After graduating Grant Park High School in 1973, Linda enrolled in Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN where she studied to become a teacher.  Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1977, Linda spent her next 40 years positively impacting the lives of hundreds of young people as a teacher in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod School system.  She taught a wide range of grade levels in locations throughout the Midwest; including Illinois, South Dakota, Michigan, and numerous locations in Wisconsin.  She also specialized in remedial reading education and worked tirelessly to bring her passion for books to children of all ages and abilities.  Linda’s enthusiasm and passion for both teaching and spreading the Word of God were felt by everyone that she encountered.

In her free time, Linda enjoyed making crafts, gardening, and watching her favorite baseball team, the Milwaukee Brewers, but most of all, she loved spending time with her friends and family, both near home and around the country.

She is survived by her eldest sister, Carol Baugh, sister, Gloria Martens, her Nephew David Baugh, his wife Heather, and her Great-Nephews Michael and William; all of whom love her very much and will feel her loss deeply.  Additionally, she is survived by her cousins Marvin Menke, Dale Menke, Ardel Menke, Lyle Menke, and Doreen Romadka as well as their families, whose lives she touched in varied and significant ways.

Linda’s life will be celebrated with a viewing at Hack-Jensen Funeral Home in Beecher, IL from 4p-8p on Monday July 8th and funeral and burial services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grant Park, IL beginning at 10a on July 9th.  Luncheon will be served following the service.

Memorials can be made in honor of Linda to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Grant Park.
