Noel S. Biery

April 26, 1936 ~ March 29, 2018 (age 81)

Noel S. Biery, died March 29, 2018, St. James Hospital, Chicago Heights, IL.  He leaves his wife, Shirley Moore Biery; two sons Daniel Moore Biery (daughter-in-law Stephanie), Berlin, Germany, and Mark Randall Biery, Tucson, AZ; two grandsons, Ryan Stuart Biery, Chicago, and Daniel Nathan Biery, Pittsburg, PA.  Also, a brother and sister-in-law, Darrel and Randi Moore, Oakland, IL; two nephews, Adam Sturgis Moore, Oakland, IL. and Andrew Robert Moore, Sidney, IL.  Noel was born on April 26, 1936 in Sheffield, Iowa.  His parents were Stuart H. Biery and Regis Cook Biery.  He graduated from Maine East High School, Park Ridge, IL in 1954 and from the University of Illinois in 1958.  He married Shirley Moore on January 4, 1959, in Champaign, IL.  Following graduation, Noel worked for Brunswick Corporation, where he helped developed the Snurfer, (predecessor of the snowboard) which he introduced on the Johnny Carson television show.  His next employment was importing Kestle skis and clothing from Austria.   He worked for Kickert School Bus, Lansing, IL as general manager; and Cook-Illinois Corp., Oak Forest, IL as vice-president.   Noel served as president of both the Illinois School Transportation Association, and the National School Transportation Association.  As a representative of the industry, he testified before the U.S. Senate on school bus safety.  Noel received the National Golden Merit and Hall of Fame Awards for distinguished service in the school bus business.   A resident of Beecher for 45 years, Noel served on the Beecher School District 200U Board of Education for 22 years, and on the Beecher Village Planning Commission for a number of years. v As a loyal member of Zion Lutheran Church, he served as elder, choir member, and President of Zion Board of Education. Visitation for Noel will be at Hack Funeral Home, 753 Hodges St., Beecher, IL, Friday, April 6, 2018 from 4 until 8 pm and funeral services will be at Zion Lutheran Church, 540 Oak Park Ave., Beecher, IL on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 am. with Rev. Ronald Rock officiating.  Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Beecher, IL. Memorials may be mailed to Hack Funeral Home Box 535 Beecher, IL 60401 C/O Shirley Biery.
