Paul John Kooy was born January 10, 1938 in Munster, Indiana. He died at 81 years of age on July 27, 2019 peacefully at home in Lowell, Indiana surrounded by family. He was the third child of the late Clarence Kooy and Katie Kooy (née VanDeraa). He is survived by the love of his life, Kathleen Louise Kooy, (nee Davis) his faithful wife of 59 years. He is also survived by his brothers Robert (Nellie) Kooy, Clarence Jr (Helen) Kooy, and his sister Ruth (Steve) Schuler. He was the cherished father of 4 children: Karen (Jeff) Clark, Susan (Jeff) Heppe, Steven (Kim) Kooy, and Eric (Rayna) Kooy. He is also survived by 9 grand children: Aaron Clark, Justin Heppe, Christine (Heppe) Lichty, Lauren (Kooy) Roetzel, Jonathan Kooy, Bethany Kooy, Amy-Jo Kooy, Eric Kooy Jr, Alexandra ( Kooy) Anderson; seven great grand children, and one in Heaven. He was also survived by numerous special nieces and nephews.
At the age of nine his family moved from Munster, Indiana to Beecher, Illinois. At age 19 he joined the Navy to serve his country. At age 21 he met and later married his wife, Kathy. He lived in Arizona and Idaho, and returned to his roots and moved back to Indiana in 2011. His career in accounting allowed him to work in bank management, business management, and local government. He loved the Lord and faithfully served in church as either deacon or treasurer. He liked playing chess, riding bicycle, and traveling. He was a loyal friend, a faithful husband, and a loving father.
