John T. Gill, 85 of Oak Lawn passed away Friday, September 21 at his home. John was born on March 3, 1927 in Chicago, IL the son of John and Myrtle Gill nee Parker. He is survived by his children Diane (Janet Sutter) Messer of Sandwich, IL and Don(Chuck Searson) Gill of Glendale Heights, IL. Two grandchildren also survive him John (Emily) Messer and Michael Messer. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife of more than 60 years, Ruth P. Gill. John had a great passion for big band era music and an extensive collection of live recorded music. John recorded many famous artists such as Duke Ellington, Harry James and other well known big bands of the 30’s and 40’s. He also loved to collect and catalog vintage 78 RPM records from the era. Mr. Gill and his wife owned and operated Gill Custom House, an audio and video business for over 50 years. Mr. Gill also served his country in the Navy as a member of the U.S. Navy Chorus. Visitation will be held Wednesday September 26 from 10-11 a.m. at Hack Funeral Home. Funeral services will also be conducted Wednesday September 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Hack Funeral Home. Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. Rev. Kim Haeren will officiate. Memorials may be directed To the First United Methodist Church of Oak Lawn.
