Robert G. Bruns Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Robert (Bob) Bruns, a lifelong resident of Crete, lost his battle with cancer on April 16, 2021. Bob was born at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, IL on November 21, 1951, to Wayne (Bruno) and Patricia (Pat) (Exo) Bruns. He was the 1st of 8 children and served in the United States Air Force. He worked on the Milwaukee Railroad and Indiana Harbor Belt. Bob was a member of the Crete Historical Society and always had great stories of growing up in Crete. He loved reminiscing about Faithorn where he met his lifelong, childhood friend, Rick Ervin. They loved talking baseball (Bob the Cubs, Rick the Sox!) and the railroad. Bob was a published author and wrote numerous articles about the railroad. He could be found on the computer researching ancestry and was even known to take trips in this pursuit. Bob could be also found enjoying the bands at all the Summer festivals. Bob is preceded in death by his parents Wayne (Bruno) and Patricia (Exo) Bruns and brother David Bruns. Bob is survived by his wife of 42 years, Evelyn (Evie) (Gibson); 3 children, Jennifer (Jim) Pigatti, Robert (Bobby) Bruns and Allison (Nick) Carollo, 5 grandchildren, Benton and Miles Pigetti, Fiona and Charlotte Bruns and Carly Churilla. He also is survived by his brothers Jeff (Jamie) Bruns and John (Shannon) Bruns and sisters Cathy (Dan) Norton, Lisa (Gary) White, Deb (John) Hall, Missy (Todd) Sippel, sister-in-law Pam (Wilkens) Bruns and numerous nieces, nephews and loving cousins. He will be greatly missed by all. A memorial celebration of his life will be held on Friday, April 30th from 2:00-7:00 with a service following at Hack Funeral Home in Beecher, IL. Please feel free to come dressed in Hawaiian shirts to honor Bob’s life and the fun he loved to have. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family. We ask that you please follow the state's guidelines where masks/face coverings and social distancing are concerned.
