Betty Joann Halverson

Betty Halverson, 91, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, in the arms of her loving Savior. She was born on December 14, 1933, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Hjalmar and Agnas (nee Larson) Praag. She was baptized on February 17, 1948. She was confirmed on March 21, 1948. On June 5, 1954, she married the love of her life, Jacque Halverson. Together they shared a remarkable 70-year journey of marriage, filled with joy, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to one another. Her family was her greatest joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. She was a pillar of love and strength. Betty’s legacy of love, laughter, and memories will live on through her family. Her impact will be felt for generations to come. Betty is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Halverson (Randy) Bettenhausen of Peotone, IL, Gayle (the late Christopher) Kurowski of Peotone, IL, Sandra (Scot) Latino of Manteno, IL; and her son, Erik (Kim) Halverson of Peotone, IL; one sister, Elaine Borkstrom, of Tinley Park, IL; one brother, Gerald Praag, of Lake Zurich, IL, three sisters-in-law, Dottie Praag of Lake Zurich, IL, Rose Halverson of Hampshire, IL, Ann Nagel of Novato, CA; grandchildren; Justin (Minerva) Finley, Jesse (Kiersten) Halverson, Erika Halverson, Jack Halverson, Isabelle Kurowski, and Elizabeth Latino. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Rocky and Mila Finley, & Jesse, Jr. and Raymond Halverson and many special nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hjalmar and Agnas Praag; one sister-in-law, Muriel Slama, five brothers-in-law, Donald Alberts, Robert Halverson, Red Nagel, Dave Slama and Carl Borkstrom and a son-in-law Chris Kurowski. Betty was the heart of our family—gentle, steadfast, and full of quiet strength. As a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she wrapped each generation in her grace. She never asked for much, never complained, and lived each day with a softness that could only come from deep, enduring faith. Her hands were often found brushing color across canvas, delicately painting the flowers she so loved—each one blooming with the care and beauty she poured into everything she touched. She saw the world with an artist’s heart, always finding light in the small and sacred. Above all, Betty was a woman of faith—devoted, humble, and guided by her belief in God. Her life was a reflection of quiet service, compassion, and a love that never wavered. We are better because we were loved by her, and we will carry her light with us, always. Services will be held on Monday, May 12th, at Peace Lutheran Church in Beecher, IL. Pastor Julian LaMie will officiate the service. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, please make your memorials to Peace Lutheran Church’s Dorcas Society. Hack-Jensen Funeral Home in Beecher handled the arrangements.
